Copper and Silver Handmade Mokume Earrings
Mokume Gane is a combination of metals. In this case, Julie uses Mokume that combines sterling silver and copper. Alternating layers of the metals are put under immense pressure and folded. When that is sliced, the metal left has the appearance of wood grain. Julie buys it in flat sheets and the forms in into rings, earrings, and pendants.
Mokume Gane is a Japanese process that means "tree eye metal". A great description for this beautiful metal. The copper will oxidize (darken) over time and you can leave it be or polish it easily with a cloth to restore the brighter color.
